1921-24Apprentices as a carpenter and studies with W. Kienzle at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich
1927Attends the Württemberg Kunstgewerbeschule under Bernhard Pankok in Stuttgart
1928Pushed by Adolf Schneck, J. Müller becomes an independent architect. He meets Paul Bay (Rudolf Steiner's assistant during the construction of the Goetheanum). Müller learns about the construction of solid wood furniture in the Beatenberg carpenter's workshop
1929Travels to Silesia
1933Builds his own house and workshop in Zurich
1939Participates in the National Exhibition in Zurich
1942Training as a master craftsman at the seminary in Zurich
1944Develops furniture with Hans Wallis
1946Founds the Wohnhilfe cooperative in St. Gallen with thirty other master builders. Wohnhilfe delivers its first furniture to the Pestalozzi Children's Village in Trogen.
1947Founding member of the SAGH
1948Develops and patents the "Plio" programme
1957Starts a career as a journalist
